A Story of Natural Beauty
Our name, Kenatae, comes from the Amharic phrase “ke ena te”, which translates to “from my mother.”
The name honors skincare not as a trend, but as a time-honored practice — enduring in its wisdom and carried through the healing hands of mothers and grandmothers who understood the power of natural skin care ingredients long before it came in a bottle.
The Story of Coffee
Centuries ago in Kaffa, Ethiopia...
A goat herder named Kaldi noticed his flock dancing with unusual energy after eating bright red berries. Curious, he tried them himself and felt the same invigorating effect.
When Kaldi shared the berries with nearby monks, they at first rejected it and cast it into the fire. Yet as the beans roasted, a rich aroma filled the air. Intrigued, the monks raked them from the embers, crushed them, and steeped them in hot water.
From this moment, coffee as we know it was first brewed — its name tracing back to Kaffa, its birthplace.
Fast forward to the present, we’re able to harness the rich benefits of its natural antioxidants through coffee bean oil extraction.

Ethiopia’s beauty rituals are among the world’s oldest — acts of care, ceremony, and connection kept alive through centuries of tradition. They embody more than appearance; they’re holistic expressions of wellness, culture, and harmony with nature.
From coffee and honey to fenugreek and flaxseed, generations of women have drawn on nature to nourish and restore their skin. Inspired by this legacy — and by my own roots — I founded Kenatae to reimagine these traditions for today, beginning with two timeless staples: coffee and honey.
Our collection will grow to embrace other botanicals drawn from Ethiopia’s beauty culture, each crafted with natural skin care ingredients as transformative as those that came before them.
